UHMS accepted conditions

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society produced for the National Academy of Science (USA) a report in 1992. This report outlined the conditions where there was appropriate research based data to support the use of HBO and it has been subsequently revised and updated.

In all of the conditions outlined below, HBO is seen as adjunctive therapy to conventional surgical and medical management.

- Air or Gas Embolism
- Decompression Sickness (The Bends)
- Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Smoke Inhalation
- Gas Gangrene
- Crush Injury and Traumatic Wounds
- Problem Wounds
- Compromised Skin Grafts, Flaps and Replants
- Necrotising Soft Tissue Infections
- Refractory Osteomyelitis
- Radiation Tissue Damage
- Thermal Burns
- Exceptional Blood Loss Anaemia
- Adjunctive Hyperbaric Oxygen in Intracranial Abcess
