The Poole hyperbaric centre has two twin-compartment multiplace chambers. This
allows patients to be accompanied by a qualified medic during treatment.
Patients are placed in the chamber where they may sit or recline. Visual supervision
is maintained by a video link, verbal communication is maintained via an intercom
unit.
Patients may read books or magazines, relax, listen to music or even sleep while
being treated. Intravenous fluids or drugs may continue to be administered during
treatment.
A typical treatment schedule would involve a 7 minute compression phase, 90
minutes of oxygen treatment, punctuated by air breaks, with a slow ascent to
the surface, to complete the treatment. Treatments are usually given daily,
Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.
